We have a newly created position for an Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team on a max term contract until 30 June 2026. This vital role will support our financial management efforts, particularly focusing on the administration and reporting of Council’s grants. The Assistant Accountant will be instrumental in maintaining a comprehensive grant register, ensuring the timely and accurate completion of grant claims and acquittals, and contributing to financial reporting and analysis that supports the strategic objectives of Lismore City Council.
You'll be working in a max term full time, 35 hour per week role, until 30 June 2026, that will primarily be based at our Corporate Centre in Goonellabah.

What we trust you to deliver 
  • Maintain and improve the central grant register for Council, ensuring timely and accurate grant management and acquittals.
  • Prepare monthly cashflow reports for grants and support the financial management of Council’s grants.
  • Collaborate with the team to achieve organisational goals through financial reporting, applying relevant accounting standards, and contributing to Quarterly Budget Reviews.
  • Assist in the preparation of comprehensive financial statements and support financial audits.
  • Strict adherence to Council policies and governance protocols to ensure compliance and uphold the integrity of all financial operations.
What you'll need to be successful
  • A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience in a similar role. Interest in pursuing professional certifications such as CA, CPA, or IPA.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of accounting principles.
  • Demonstrated experience in accounting for grants, completion of financial acquittals, and a proven track record of delivering high-level customer service.
  • Excellent communication skills, flexibility, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy, including proficiency in Excel, and experience with ERP systems is desirable.
