 About the role
We are currently seeking an internal Senior Regulatory Services Officer, to join our Operational Compliance team. This role is permanent full-time, working 35 hours a week and will be primarily based at our Corporate Centre in Goonellabah.  
Reporting to the Regulatory Services Coordinator, the Senior Regulatory Services Officer is a key member of the Shared Services Program area and is responsible for delivering a high level of service to Council and the Community on the provision of specialist advice on Environmental Health and Public Health functions. The Senior Regulatory Services Officer assists the Coordinator with day to day supervision and operations of the Regulatory services team in line with Council's procedures, policies, and legislative requirements. This position also relieves the Regulatory Services Coordinator during periods of leave and provides a high level of mentorship, technical guidance and support to the Regulatory Services team. This position works closely with internal and external stakeholders to support the delivery of sustainable development that satisfies legislative policies and community expectations.

  • Execute work health and safety duties, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations in the Program area. Assist team members in implementing related policies, procedures, and processes. Adhere to defined work health and safety protocols to safeguard own and others' well-being. Demonstrate contribution to fostering a safer workplace, compliance with WHS controls, including documented risk assessments, hazard reporting, and supporting injured colleagues.
  • Assist the team in achieving excellence by establishing, managing, and monitoring systems, processes, standards, and service delivery benchmarks. Engage in improvement discussions and promote best practices. Embrace continuous improvement principles to enhance service delivery to Council customers. Actively participate in ongoing professional development.  
  • Establish and nurture relationships with key stakeholders and customers, both internal and external, involved in program service delivery. Deliver exceptional customer service to meet the expectations of internal customers in issue resolution. Ensure satisfaction of customer service KPIs, including handling tasks, correspondence, CRMs, and phone messages. Offer guidance, advice, and coordination for additional information requests related to applications. 
  • Engage actively and positively within the Regulatory Services team, fostering constructive relationships through accountable, affiliative, and constructive behaviours. Empower and engage colleagues while demonstrating commitment to a positive team environment. Remain flexible and adaptable to evolving team needs, contributing actively and being available to take on additional roles when necessary. 
What you'll need to be successful
  • Possession of a Degree in Environmental Health, Public Health or equivalent together with relevant work experience
  • Eligibility for membership within the Australian Institute of Environmental Health.
  • WorkCover Construction Induction Certificate.
  • Current Class C driver’s licence.
