About this position:
The Environmental Strategies Officer is a permanent full-time position for a suitably qualified person to work within the Environmental Strategies team. The role will see you working collaboratively on strategic environmental projects with industry, community and internal stakeholders within the LGA and Northern Rivers region.
You will bring expertise in project management with an ecosystem’s skill set and be working with a team of similarly motivated and passionate people. A typical day could see you collaborating on strategic delivery of biodiversity management programs, advising stakeholders on best practice ecological projects, coordinating rural-based events for restoration and land management, or guiding rural landholders through grants programs.
You'll be working in a full time 35 hour/week role, with workplace flexibility and options around a 9 day fortnight, that will primarily be based at our Corporate Centre in Goonellabah.

What we trust you to deliver
- Deliver an incentives program that engages with landholders, industry and community partners, professional contractors and other Council staff
- The ability to work autonomously in delivering small and large scale projects
- Promote the use of best practice land management techniques by providing exposure to new knowledge, information, and skills
- Develop media releases, fact sheets and other publications that promote the Rural Landholder Initiative.
- Assist with the implementation of other programs in the Lismore Biodiversity Management Strategy
What you'll need to be successful
- Bring a strategic mindset to assist in the integrated delivery of programs across the organisation
- High level of oral and written communication skills needed for engaging with a range of internal and external partners in land management.
- Possession of a tertiary qualification or demonstrated equivalent experience in a Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, or Ecology is essential.
- A working knowledge of Australian species and ecosystems identification
- Knowledge in landscape ecology and ecosystem services
- Experience in project management, data management, and reporting
