Our Flood Restoration Portfolio (FRP) is the principal delivery agency for restoring the Councils’ and Community assets. About this Position:An opportunity exists within the Council’s Flood Restoration Portfolio for a Project Engineer to join our team focused on delivering positive outcomes for Lismore in collaboration with State Government agencies and on behalf of Council’s Asset Owner. Your technical capabilities and focus on stakeholder outcomes will be applied to ensuring Council’s objectives are represented through project delivery and investment decisions.

This position will report directly to the Flood Restoration Director for Water. Water and sewerage services have been reinstated with temporary repairs. This program aims to permanently replace or rebuild water and sewerage infrastructure damaged in 2022.

The program includes rebuilding and/or upgrading water and sewage treatment plants, sewage pump station upgrades, and remote monitoring projects. It involves working closely with our Flood Restoration Portfolio team, broader Council, NSW State Government agencies, design consultancies, and contractors to manage effective project development and delivery through effective communication, consultation, and verification of technical project details.

The successful applicant will have strong experience developing water and sewerage projects through concept and detailed designs, with a strong focus on constructability and operational implementation

What we trust you to deliver:
  • Establish and manage effective professional relationships with project stakeholders.
  • Effective and collaborative working relationships with NSW Government agencies, professional services and design consultants and sub-consultants, construction and construction support contractors and sub-contractors, and other service providers as required for project delivery.
  • Strong and supportive liaison and representation of LCC’s asset owner and their requirements.
  • Clear communications and coordination of LCC stakeholders are needed to ensure the timely and effective review of project deliverables.
  • Technical assessment, review, and management of project deliverables commensurate with engineering qualifications and skills.
  • Manage information and deliverables in accordance with Quality Management Systems and procedures established by the Flood Restoration Portfolio.
  • Identify risks and issues and determine effective mitigation strategies to minimise impacts to successful project delivery.
  • Effective procurement and contract management of goods and services purchased for project delivery (if required).
  • Manage yourself to meet necessary timelines and balance priorities.
  • Cost tracking, monthly progress claims, and reporting.
  • Managing and guiding junior engineers. 
  • Maintain and apply all relevant standards and policies.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
What you will need to be successful: As a successful candidate, you will have knowledge and experience in water and sewerage infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will have prior experience in water and sewage treatment plant and or sewage pump station design, construction, and, ideally, operational integration and or operational expertise. You will hold engineering qualifications in Process or Mechanical Engineering (mandatory requirement). Project management experience is highly beneficial, and qualifications are viewed favorably (ideal, non-mandatory).

The successful candidate will have the aptitude to critically appraise project deliverables, stakeholder feedback, and project management strategies and determine suitability against LCC’s business requirements and strategic objectives.

Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement and representation is a mandatory requirement.  In this role, you will join our Flood Restoration Water Program and be responsible for successfully coordinating stakeholder inputs and performing technical reviews of project deliverables. Your tasks and responsibilities within the team will include the following:

  • Coordinating daily activities and serving as a point of escalation for critical and non-critical events.
  • Communicating clear expectations and timeframes.
  • Liaising with State agencies, clients, stakeholders, and suppliers.
  • Facilitating effective stakeholder buy-in and appreciation of deliverables, as well as the consequences of project development and feedback collected.
  • Manage and escalate technical and project delivery issues and risks as appropriate.
  • Providing consistent and timely project status updates.
  • Assisting in maintaining project programs, schedules, and documentation.
  • Demonstrating a strong commitment to safety and understanding WHS best practices.
  • Demonstrating a strong commitment to the Flood Restoration Portfolio’s purpose and delivery projects to provide critical services to our community.
