About this position
As a Senior Building Surveyor at Lismore City Council, you will play a key role in ensuring that building projects within our city are compliant with regulations and codes. You will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, including residential, commercial, and public infrastructure developments. Your expertise and leadership will contribute to the growth and development of our city while maintaining the highest standards of safety and sustainability.
You'll be working in a full time 35 hour role that will primarily be based at our Corporate Centre in Goonellabah.
What we trust you to deliver
- Conduct detailed assessments and inspections of building projects to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and standards.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to developers, builders, and property owners on building regulations, codes, and best practices.
- Review and assess building development applications, compliance certificates, and construction certificates.
- Manage and mentor a team of building surveyors to achieve high performance and quality standards.
- Collaborate with other council departments, architects, engineers, and external stakeholders to facilitate smooth project progression.

What you'll need to be successful
- Accreditation as an A1 certifier under the Building and Development Certifiers Act 2018
- Relevant bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and building surveying or equivalent
- Post Graduate Diploma & or equivalent in Fire Engineering or similar discipline is desirable
- Eligibility for Membership of the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors
- Extensive experience in the assessment of most types of land use planning application preferably under NSW legislation and Experience in Land and Environment Court matters.
- WorkCover Construction Induction Certificate
- Demonstrated extensive experience (5-10 years) and ability to deliver services aligned to the business activities of the team.
- Expert knowledge in Building regulation and/or Land use planning and development, preferably under NSW legislation.
