About this Position:

The Senior Compliance Officer plays a critical role in ensuring Council’s Waste, Water and Sewer operations. This position complies with all relevant legislation, environmental standards, and internal policies and provides expert guidance, leads audits and investigations, and supports continuous improvement in regulatory performance across the Directorate. Working closely with operational, engineering, and environmental staff, the Senior Compliance Officer helps safeguard public health, protect the environment, and maintain Council’s reputation as a responsible waste and water and sewer service provider.

What we trust you to deliver:

  • Lead internal audits, inspections, and risk assessments across waste, water and sewer operations.
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with relevant legislation, including relevant acts and licensing conditions.
  • Manages all current and future EPL’s (Environmental Protection Licences) across waste, water and sewer.
  • Prepares and submits regulatory reports, incident notifications, and licence renewals.

What you will need to be successful:

  • Experience in waste, water and sewer industry compliance, environmental regulation, or local government operations.
  • Strong understanding of relevant Australian legislation, environmental standards, and public health regulations 
  • Experience conducting audits, investigations, and regulatory reporting.
  • Ability to support the team in the development of solutions to business problems and opportunities.
  • Ability to interpret complex legislation and translate it into practical guidance.
  • Qualifications in Environmental Science, Engineering, Waste Management, or a related field.
  • Eligible for membership of an appropriate professional institute
  • Construction Induction Certificate (White Card) - or willing to obtain 
  • Current Class C Driver’s Licence. 

Desirable: Familiarity with compliance and quality monitoring systems, and asset management tools.

Full Time: 76 hours per fortnight 

Salary: From $1,799.20 to $2,069.08 per week + superannuation

Conditions of Employment: Conditions of employment are in the Local Government (State) Award and relevant Council policy, procedures and agreements. 

Pre-employment Screening: Prior to employment, there will be a series of pre-employment checks that may include, health assessments, validation of right to work in Australia, validation of qualifications and licences, criminal history checks, psychometric assessments and referee checks.

Immunisation Program

Council has an immunisation program to provide employees with vaccinations against known health risks associated with their respective duties and to identify any exposure to products that may affect an employee’s health, fitness and wellbeing. This position has been identified as a risk to the employee and as such the successful applicant/s will be required to participate in the immunisation program and it is the applicant’s responsibility to have undertaken relevant immunisation/s prior to commencement with Council.
