About this Position:

We are pleased to share an internal career opportunity within the Roads and Infrastructure Directorate.

The Quarry the Plant & Heavy Vehicle Operator - Quarry is responsible for operating heavy plant and vehicles to support safe, efficient, and compliant quarry operations. This role is critical in maintaining production flow, upholding safety and environmental standards, and contributing to the overall performance of the quarry team.

What we trust you to deliver:

  • Operate a variety of heavy plant equipment such as, excavator and wheeled front end loader with competence and efficiency. Ensuring safe use in accordance with site procedures and operational standards.
  • Drive and operate Heavy Rigid (HR) vehicles such as, but not limited to, HR tippers and water trucks. Ensuring safe and efficient operation in line with site procedures and transport regulations.
  • Monitor quarry products to ensure compliance with specifications set by Transport for NSW (TfNSW). Support continuous improvement by maintaining quality documentation and contributing to process enhancements that uphold product standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Install and maintain environmental controls, with an understanding of how to apply them in varying site and weather conditions.
  • Ensure heavy vehicles and plant equipment are maintained by completing and reporting daily roadworthy inspections and prestart inspections and perform minor maintenance tasks.
  • Guide and develop less experienced colleagues
  • Adhere to the Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum Sites) Act 2013 and the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) and associated regulations. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, including NHVR requirements, and support accurate reporting and adherence to all statutory obligations.
  • Carry out general labourer duties when active plant and/or heavy vehicle operation is not required.
  • Deliver professional customer interactions with the community
  • Support Council to meet its obligations to the community, by participating in an on-call roster outside of standard working hours.
  • Use Council’s technology systems to stay informed about work updates, manage communication, and complete tasks.

What you will need to be successful:

  • General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
  • Current Class HR Licence
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a heavy vechicle
  • Ability to work effectivley as a part of a team

Employee conditions: Attractive wages and conditions, including a 76-hour fortnight with an RDO, plus on-call and overtime opportunities.  

Salary: Salary from $67,938  per annum + superannuation
