About this Position:

 

We are pleased to share an internal career opportunity within the Roads and Infrastructure Directorate as Asset/Traffic Engineer. Reporting to the ​Engineering Lead​ the ​Asset/Traffic Engineer​ is responsible for​ developing and implementing innovative and sustainable traffic management solutions that improve safety, accessibility, and connectivity across the community.

The role also contributes to forward asset planning for the capital works program within the Roads and Infrastructure directorate, providing engineering advice based on level of service and whole-of-life asset performance to support resource planning, project pipeline development, and alignment with internal and external expectations.​

This position is part of a multi-skilled team and is required to be flexible and agile. From time to time, this role may be required to support more than one department as the need arises and provide support across the organisation as directed.

  • Develop and assess traffic and transport management plans, identifying opportunities to enhance safety, traffic flow and parking.
  • Analyse traffic data, maintain traffic records and assess development proposals for their impact on traffic, assets and parking.
  • Coordinate road safety audits and ensure compliance with relevant standards, guidelines and Council policies.
  • Work with asset management teams to integrate asset considerations into planning, support budget management and contribute to risk and sustainability initiatives.
  • Explore and apply innovative asset and traffic management solutions using data insights and modern tools.
  • Lead and participate in the Local Traffic Forum and internal traffic working groups, ensuring alignment with community expectations and regulatory requirements.

 

What you will need to be successful:

 

Essential:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Transport Engineering, or a related field.  
  • Current Class C Driver’s Licence. 


Desirable:

The following criteria are considered important and demonstrated capacity to satisfy them will be highly regarded: 

  • Experience working in a local government environment. 
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidelines (e.g., Austroads, Australian Standards). 
  • Road Safety Auditor accreditation (TfNSW)

Employment conditions : Attractive wages and conditions, including a 70-hour fortnight with an RDO, plus on-call and overtime opportunities. 

 

Salary: Salary starts at $89,267.
