About this Position:
The primary function of the Leading Hand Parks and Open Spaces is to support the upkeep and improvement of the Local Government area's parks, gardens, sports fields, streetscapes and public and open spaces. As part of a multi skilled team, the role contributes to the day-to-day horticultural and maintenance activities across a variety of outdoor spaces and facilities. You will help to guide and support a dedicated team to bring out the best in our natural and recreational spaces. There is also some flexibility required to assist other teams and respond to organisational needs as they arise.

What we trust you to deliver:
- Coordinate daily tasks by organising resources, guiding team members and checking that work meets required standards.
- Operate and maintain the machinery, tools and equipment used in open space and horticultural maintenance.
- Carry out landscaping, garden upgrades, turf care and tree‑related work using sound horticultural practices.
- Provide practical horticultural advice and assist other teams when specialist support is needed.
- Manage plant and turf health by identifying and treating weeds, pests and diseases, and report any asset damage or safety concerns.
- Contribute to planning and delivering maintenance programs, while following safe work practices and completing required documentation.
- Engage positively with customers and team members, participating in toolbox talks and supporting continuous improvement in service delivery.
What you will need to be successful:
- A relevant trade qualification (Certificate III) in Horticulture, Landscape Construction, Sports Turf Management, Arboriculture, or an equivalent field is highly desirable, or significant proven work experience will be considered.
- WorkCover Construction Induction Card
- Current Class C Driver’s Licence
- Current Class MC Driver’s Licence, (desired)
- Chainsaw Operations Level 1 – Operate and maintain Chainsaws. (or willing to obtain upon starting)
- Chemicals Users Accreditation (or willing to obtain upon starting)
- Implement Traffic Management Plans certificate (or willing to obtain upon starting)
Full Time: 76 hours/fortnight
Salary: Salary range from $67,938 - $78,129 per annum + Superannuation.

Conditions of Employment: Conditions of employment are in the Local Government (State) Award and relevant Council policy, procedures and agreements.

Immunisation Program
Council has an immunisation program to provide employees with vaccinations against known health risks associated with their respective duties and to identify any exposure to products that may affect an employee’s health, fitness and wellbeing. This position has been identified as a risk to the employee and as such the successful applicant/s will be required to participate in the immunisation program and it is the applicant’s responsibility to have undertaken relevant immunisation/s prior to commencement with Council.
